Volunteer Opportunities

Be a Member of the Chapter Board
Board members are elected annually by the membership, and serve a 1-year term. You must be an active member of the MRA to hold a board position.

Chair a Committee
This is an excellent way to develop leadership skills and gain lots of recognition within the marketing research community. Chairing a committee is often a stepping-stone to being elected to the Board.

Committee Membership
You don’t need to be a member of the MRA to serve on a committee, just interested in helping out. Some committees meet once a quarter, and some once a month. You can tailor your interests to your schedule. Being a committee member offers you the most flexibility regarding how much time you want to contribute.

Committee Descriptions

Programming Committee: Using the direction provided by the board, the programming committee develops the chapter educational calendar, recruits speakers, and gathers information for publicity and PRC credit. In addition, the committee locates and manages the site for educational events, liaises with speakers, arranges for meeting evaluation, and writes the invitation for the event. The time commitment is a 1-hour meeting per month, with approximately 15-45 minutes of follow up tasks after each meeting. You can choose to take a break from some events when your schedule gets crazy, we’re just grateful for the time you do have to give us. Skills that are needed or can be developed on this committee include creativity, brainstorming, organizational skills, event planning, and survey follow-up skills.

Membership Committee: The Membership Committee is responsible for all member records, hospitality for MRA events, registration for MRA events, and new members. They meet before each event. The time commitment is a 1-hour meeting per quarter, and approximately 1 hour of follow up work between meetings. Skills that are needed, or can be developed include communication, professional networking, and database management.

Publicity Committee: The Publicity Committee meets once per quarter, but communicates regularly via email. Responsibilities of the committee include collecting articles from journals, industry experts, or Internet to be included in the Verbatim Newsletter, proof reading our newsletter and Bait Box, serving as traffic cop for all newsletter and Bait Box deadlines. The time commitment is a 1-hour meeting per quarter, and approximately 2-4 hours of follow up work between meetings. Skills that are needed, or that can be developed, include creative writing, editing, graphic arts/ printing, and public relations.

One More Opportunity: Donating Event Meeting Space
Another avenue for volunteering is showcasing your company by hosting an MRA Event. Does your company have a room that will seat at least 40 people? The Programming Committee coordinates the speaker and event logistics; your company gets some great exposure. Why is this important? In addition to the obvious benefits to your company, having a company host an event keeps the cost down for both MRA members and guests.

How to volunteer

If any of the volunteer opportunities outlined here appeal to you, or if you have any questions, please contact any member of the Board listed on the Board of Directors page, or email us at info at mnmra dot org

Why Volunteer?

Our local chapter of the MRA is operated 100% by volunteer efforts. Want some reasons to volunteer?
  • To network with people and companies in our industry.
  • To develop professional/leadership skills that will help in your career.
  • To gain knowledge of the “latest & greatest” trends in our industry.

And remember. volunteering is good. Volunteering is noble. Volunteering can help you lose weight. OK…two out of three isn’t bad. There are many ways to volunteer with MRA, from joining a committee to agreeing to do only one task. Want some examples? We could be talking about anything from website updates to stuffing envelopes….painting megaphones to writing a letter to Congress…picking up flowers from a florist to being a cheerleader. You could chair a committee, be a dedicated member of a committee, or just do something like reserve a location for an event once in a while. The list is endless and we guarantee that there’s something for everyone. Describe your special talents or your secret (G-rated) desires and we’ll find a spot for you. It will be fun!
